A HEALTHIER LANDSCAPE AROUND US

Did you know that almost 40% of Prague is made up of fields, meadows, orchards and gardens? That’s only slightly less than the built-up parts of the city. And that’s a huge responsibility.

HOW DO WE CARE FOR THE LANDSCAPE TO MAKE IT MORE RESILIENT AND DIVERSE?

100% of the agricultural land leased by Prague is rented to farmers only on condition that they adhere to the principles of ecological farming: smaller fields, hedgerows teeming with life, and no chemical pesticides.
64 community gardens + 6 community farms that you can get involved in.
13,000 apple, pear, cherry and other fruit trees in avenues and orchards that we care for across Prague.

FROM PRAGUE’S FIELDS STRAIGHT TO YOUR PLATE

Some schools are already supplied with vegetables grown directly on Prague’s organic farms.
To bring even more local food into school canteens, we are preparing an online marketplace that will connect local organic farmers directly with kitchens. And because food shouldn’t go to waste, schools can pass on any leftover meals to local charities via the platform Zachraň oběd (“Save Lunch”).
Compost from collected bio-waste is then used to care for greenery, e.g. in Stromovka Park.

A question for children
Which bit of nature in Prague is closest to you? And which do you like best?
Have you ever spotted a hare, a hedgehog, a squirrel, or maybe even a bat, in Prague?
