Competition in collecting of waste paper

The competition in the collecting of waste paper at elementary schools organised by the company of Středočeské sběrné suroviny, a. s. in cooperation and under the umbrella of the Prague City Hall (OIM MHMP) has been running for ten years.

In total 33,880 children from ninety-five Prague’s elementary schools participated in the competition and collected 1,215,500 kg of waste paper in the school year 2003/2004. On average one pupil returned 36 kg paper.

The winners were the Elementary School Ratibořická 1700, Prague 9 - Horní Počernice (in the amount of paper collected – 96,840 kg) and the Elementary School Mýtní 73, Prague 9 - Běchovice (according to the average amount per a pupil – 225.24 kg).

In the accompanying environmental competitions in the collection of plastic caps and aluminium the Elementary School Mendíků 1/1000, Prague 4, collecting 2,500 kg plastic caps, and Elementary School Strossmayerovo Square 4, Prague 7, where pupils collected 164 kg aluminium became the winners, respectively.

In total 59 Prague’s elementary schools (48 in the collecting of caps and 11 in the collecting of aluminium) participated in the accompanying environmental competitions and collected 27,899 kg plastic caps and 493 kg aluminium.

Besides these awards Mr. RNDr. Miloš Gregar, Prague’s Coucillor awarded with the Prague’s Mayor Cup the elementary school, which has been best in the paper collecting for over the whole time of the competition. This award was given to the Elementary School Ratibořická 1700, Prague 9 - Horní Počernice for the total amount of collected paper of 551,789 kg and for the best average amount collected per a pupil at the amount of 124 kg.
