🚍 We are proud to share that on 4th August, the City of Prague and The Prague Public Transit Company officially handed 15 buses to the Ukrainian city of Chernivtsi. The buses that recently retired from service in Prague will support public transportation for displaced residents, nearly a quarter of the city’s population, following the Russian invasion. The vehicles are fully operational.
💬 As Mayor Bohuslav Svoboda stated:
"The aid we are providing today is not just about transportation. It is also an expression of solidarity. Proof that we are not indifferent to what is happening beyond our borders. Prague will continue to support a free Ukraine – cities, municipalities and individuals who have endured and continue to endure difficult conditions."
ℹ️ The donation is part of Prague’s broader support for Ukraine across multiple areas, including humanitarian aid. In terms of public transport alone, 71 vehicles – trams, buses and service equipment – have been donated to Ukrainian cities since the war began in 2022.

🌱 In June, a group of experts in environmental protection and care from the City of Prague visited the City of Vienna to gain new experience on how to make the urban space greener and more liveable.
During their stay in Vienna, which was co-organised by Bieno, an NGO focused on making Prague's inner courtyards greener, the experts from Prague participated in guided tours and site visits showcasing Vienna’s green facades, newly (re-)developed public spaces and the repurposing of vacant buildings for community-oriented use.
Vienna also highlighted its efforts in promoting local participation and reuse initiatives. A standout example was the 48er-Tandler reuse shop, which gives unwanted products from residents and Vienna-based institutions a second life.
Thank you to the City of Vienna and the Internationale Büros for the opportunity to gather green inspiration in your city!

Prague and Berlin are Celebrating 30 Years of Partnership This Year 🤝
Mayor Svoboda visited Berlin to meet Kai Wegner, the Governing Mayor of Berlin. Together, they evaluated the three decades of partnership with projects covering security, crisis management, mobility, and education.
Both Mayors expressed a shared ambition to broaden the existing cooperation to new areas, including medical emergency services. A key focus was on how to inspire young people to discover not only our two cities, but each other. Early-stage planning is underway with an eye toward 2026.
One particularly special chapter of the shared story between Prague and Berlin began in the 18th century, when a group of Bohemian religious exiles were granted a new home in what is now Berlin’s district of Neukölln. The former Bohemian village still stands, next to the Comenius Garden – a place that not only reflects the values of Comenius, but also serves as a community and education centre.
🎭 As culture is an invaluable bridge between our two cities, the evening before the visit was dedicated to theatre – Zuzana Hockova, Head of International Relations, and Georg Klußmann, Head of International Relations and Protocol of Berlin, attended the opening of the theatre festival Ein Stück: Tschechien 2025 which featured Prague's A Studio Rubín's play Propast/Abgrund. Thank you to Festival Director Barbora Schnelle for all her long-standing work!

🎼 Today we had the pleasure of welcoming over 300 young members from the choir of Hamburg's traditional Gymnasium Christianeum to Prague.
They were officially greeted in front of the New City Hall by Mr Pavel Pospíšek, Chair of the Prague City Council's Education Commission.
This year we celebrate 35 years of partnership between Hamburg and Prague, with youth exchange playing a vital role. We're delighted to see Christianeum return after their last visit in 2019. Their spontaneous performances at the Old Town Square and Prague Castle were truly memorable.
🗓️ If you missed them there, do not miss tonight's Carmina Burana concert at 7 PM in KD Domovina.

🌸 Today we are taking a look back at the recent workshop on the art of ikebana, led by Ms Hieda Shigyoku, a representative of the Sogetsu school. His Excellency Mr Kansuke Nagaoka, the Ambassador of Japan to the Czech Republic, a keen ikebana practitioner himself, has personally participated in the event and shared some of his extensive knowledge with us.
The workshop was held at the Glam-Gallas Palace under the auspices of Mayor Svoboda. It was a unique opportunity to observe the floral arrangements take shape through the instructors' expertise. One of our colleagues created an arrangement that was later featured during a meeting between the Mayor and the Ambassador of Japan.
🤝 The event was co-organised by the Embassy of Japan in the Czech Republic, Prague Sogetsu Study Group, Botanical Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences and Czech-Japanese Association.

We were honoured to welcome President Petr Pavel to the Prague House – the residence of the City of Prague's Representation to the EU – during his official visit to Brussels.
This unique photo – President Pavel standing beside the iconic bust of President Václav Havel by Kryštof Hošek – captures not only a symbolic moment, but also a powerful message: the enduring commitment of the Czech Republic to democratic values, responsibility, and service to the public.
Democracy is not a given – it must be protected, renewed, and lived.
On 21st August 2024, the City of Prague signed a memorandum of cooperation with Knihovna Václava Havla (The Václav Havel Library). The signing took place on a symbolic day in a symbolic year as the Library celebrated the 20th anniversary of its founding.

Last week, we hosted a group of IT apprentices from our partner city Frankfurt am Main as part of the celebrations of the 35th anniversary of our partnership🤝
💻 During their week-long visit to Prague, the group took part in a day of activities organised by the City of Prague and focused on the city's digital landscape. The itinerary included visits to the City’s Archive and Data Centre, where the apprentices learned about the future role of artificial intelligence in Prague, explored the hardware and gained insights into the city’s digital archive operations.
The day was rounded off at the Old Town Hall, where the apprentices were officially welcomed and greeted by Zuzana Hockova, Head of International Relations, followed by a tour of the iconic landmark.
It is always a pleasure to be able to welcome young, talented people in Prague and to show them what our city has to offer.
We hope you all enjoyed your time with us and good luck in your future careers! 🙌

🎨 Celebrating Inclusive Art Across Continents
The City of Prague had the honour of hosting a special Award Ceremony for neurodivergent artists who took part in the International Art Competition for Artists with Disabilities, organised by our Sister City, Phoenix, Arizona.
The awards were presented by Councillor for Education, Mr Antonín Klecanda, whose presence underscored the importance of accessibility and inclusion in the arts.
Five artists from the Prague-based non-profit Barvolam, which supports neurodivergent creatives, represented our city with incredible talent and passion.
Congratulations to Dagmar Filípková, Erika Hajná, Šárka Hojaková and Marek Švihovec! 👏
👏 A special congratulations to Marie Kohoutková who won the People’s Choice Award for her outstanding work.
