Free tours of Prague to celebrate International Tourist Guide Day
On the 23rd of February 2019, the Czech Republic Guides Association will offer free guided tours to celebrate the International Tourist Guide Day. The International Tourist Guide Day is held annually on the 21st of February since 1985. Because the 21st is a Thursday, tour guides in most places decided to give free guided tours on Friday the 22nd or Saturday the 23rd of February. The event will take place throughout the Czech Republic. In Prague, tourists will have a choice between two guided tours.
In Prague, there are over two thousand guides
The Czech Republic Guides Association was established in autumn 2001 as a non-governmental organisation uniting tourist guides. According to their data, there are 4,500 tourist guides in the Czech Republic, about half of whom provide services in the capital city and the Central Bohemian region. There are also unregistered guides in the country, but the quality of their services is not guaranteed.
On the 23rd of February, you will have the opportunity to join free guided tours of Prague with educated and qualified guides who are members of the Association. The meeting point is at Václav Havel Square.
A café in a prime location
There are two routes to choose from, and both will stop at the Café Slavia, opposite the National Theatre. One of the most famous cafes in Prague first opened in 1884. Jaroslav Kvapil, Vítězslav Nezval, the Čapek brothers, Jan Zrzavý, and later Václav Havel and the poet Jiří Kolář were among the many artists who used to come here. Artists continue meeting at Café Slavia to this day.

a) National Theatre (Národní divadlo) - Czech Academy of Sciences (Akademie věd) - Café Slavia – Legion Bridge (most Legií) - Střelecký Island (Střelecký ostrov) - Újezd
b) National Theatre – Czech Academy of Sciences - Café Slavia – Goethe-Institut in Prague (former GDR Embassy) – Slovanský Island (Slovanský ostrov), from Žofín Palace (Palác Žofín) to Mánes Building.
