Legends in the Aero: Mad Max is back on the scene

The director George Miller made cinematic history with the creation of the Mad Max cult movies. Now you can see all the movies in the series in one day, on the 27th of April 2019 at Aero cinema, as part of the 'Legends of Aero' series. The movies are in English with Czech subtitles.

When Mad Max invaded cinema screens for the first time in 1979, everyone knew that this was a completely new way of creating a post-apocalyptic action movie. The Australian director and screenwriter George Miller breathed life into the main character of a lone warrior, and created a world after the end of civilization with a new social order.

Entry in the Guinness Book of Records

In the first film in the series, the audience is introduced to Max Rockatansky (Mel Gibson) one of the top members of the MFP police unit. He gets involved with a rough bike gang with disastrous results. Because of the gang, Max loses not only his partner and best friend, but also his son and his wife, starting a fierce battle for vengeance.

Despite the fact that the film was shot with a limited budget, it guarantees an incredible spectacle. Previously unseen stunts, special effects, car chases ... This is what the audience wants. It is no wonder that the first episode of the series broke world records. For twenty years, the film was in the Guinness Book of Records as a movie with the highest sales/cost ratio.

For lovers of vintage cars

Vintage car lovers go mad for the film. Mad Max will show cars like the 1974 Ford Falcon XB, which originally served as police cars, in full glory. Another car, the 1972 Falcon XA, was used as a taxi in Melbourne. And one more gem: in the first episode, 14 cars were destroyed, including the Mazda Bongo, which belonged to the director himself. It was demolished in the opening car chase.

Four films, six Oscars

An equally successful sequel followed the first film. In 1981, cinemagoers saw ‘Mad Max 2 – The Road Warrior’. Four years later, ‘Mad Max - Beyond Thunderdome’ appeared on the big screen. The trilogy has become a phenomenon. The last episode – ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ - wasn't made until 2015. But such a long interval hasn’t changed the storyline. Once again, the director set the story in the world of Max Rockatansky, a road warrior haunted by his troubled past. And Max is still convinced he can only survive by going on a solitary hero’s journey. The film won six Academy Awards. Come and enjoy the frantic ride of Mad Max in the Aero!

Legends in Aero

According to the film dramaturge of the Žižkov cinema, some films are evergreen. Therefore, he believes that certain movies still belong on the Aero cinema screen and wants to remind filmgoers of these classics. And so, you can look forward to one such film in the Aero every month as a part of ‘Legends in Aero’ series.
