Top dancers will gather in Hybernia Theatre

On the 30th of April 2019, the 33rd annual festival 'Mezinárodní týdny tance' (International Dance Weeks) will culminate in the Hybernia Theatre. For the first time, artists from all three Czech National Theatres will meet on one stage!

Everyone likes dance. Not only it has always been a powerful way of expressing your feelings, it can also improve your mood. The art of dance will be on display at the festival’s Gala.

The oldest Czech festival

‘Mezinárodní týdny tance’ is the oldest Czech contemporary dance festival. It has been taking place since 1982, when it originated from the tradition of regular seminars and performances at the Charles University Dance Center, with foreign artists and teachers.

The prestigious festival, which includes seminars and workshops, has changed several times over the years, but it has kept its form. And so, every year it introduces an exceptional contemporary dance show of the highest quality.

Three National Theatres

This year's Gala will be extraordinary. Apart from the fact that many renowned artists from the Czech Republic and abroad will take part, it will also be the first time that members of all three Czech National Theatres will gather together on one stage. Brno is introducing its Slovakian artistic director, Mário Radačovský’s, work, Ostrava is showing work by the famous choreographer Jiří Pokorný, and Prague is represented by the Italian choreographer, Mauro Bigonzetti.

Juniors

As was the case in the previous years, two dance schools will represent youth dance. The Prague Dance Conservatory’s Bohemia Ballet will perform their resident French choreographer, Bérangère Andreo’s, premiere performance. Ballet Prague Junior, from Dance Center Prague - Conservatory and Grammar School, will perform two pieces from their core repertoire, one by Attila Egerházi from Hungary, and another by one of their successful graduates, Šimon Kubáň.

420PEOPLE, ‘Jihočeský balet’ (Ballet of South Bohemian Theatre), Sandalfon Dance Company and many other regional theatres and ensembles are also invited to the Gala. Selected Czech dancers from abroad will also take part.

Dance Center Prague - Conservatory

The Prague Dance Conservatory provides an eight-year-long, standard secondary education in the humanities and full secondary and higher professional education in the field of dance art. The current teaching model originated in the mid-1960s, with the aim of preparing students both for a professional performance career, and for university study and creative artistic work.
