Celebrate Europe Day 2019!
'Concert for Europe' will take place on Střelecký Island in Prague on the 9th of May to celebrate Europe Day 2019 and the 15th anniversary of the Czech Republic joining the EU.
In addition to musical performances, there will also be discussions with interesting guests, as well as activities for children on the day.
The idea of peaceful cooperation in Europe was first publicly introduced on the 9th of May 1950 by the French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman. And in 1985, EU representatives agreed at their meeting in Milan that the 9th of May would be Europe Day. Since then, all Member States host various festivals and events on this day, with support from the European Parliament.
Celebrations on Střelecký Island
Prague will also take part in the celebrations and prepare an interesting programme to remember this significant date. Music will be the main part of the event. Milan Svoboda & Pražský Big Band will prepare a special performance for this exceptional concert. This modern music band is composed of leading soloists from the Czech jazz scene and they only play their own original compositions, resulting in its distinctive sound. Artists will include the Czech musician and composer Ondřej G. Brzobohatý; the singer and showman Matěj Ruppert; the singer in the Prague electro-pop band Mydy Rabycad Žofie Dařbujánová; the Slovak singer, jazz & blues guru Peter Lipa; and the jazz musician and composer Jiří Stivín, among others. Prago Union, a Prague hip-hop band, will also give an interesting performance, as well as Cirkus Problem, a band inspired by Balkan music, klezmer and brass music, whose performances are always very spectacular and lively.
