Emergency measures during the state of emergency
On the 12th of March 2020, the Czech government declared a state of emergency due to the coronavirus pandemic. The emergency was extended until 30 April.
Emergency measures:
Travel:
- A ban on travel abroad from the Czech Republic for Czech citizens and foreigners with a permanent or temporary stay status for over 90 day (with some exceptions).
- A ban on travel to the Czech Republic for all foreigners (with some exceptions).
- Border controls are in place.
- Restrictions on air, train, and bus services.
Closure of the following institutions:
- Schools
- Cultural institutions
- Sports facilities - outside outdoor sports grounds, fitness and wellness centres
Movement:
- The restriction of free movement: people are only allowed to leave their homes in order to commute to work, be with family members, buy essential goods, and settle urgent official matters.
- Everyone is obliged to wear protective masks when moving in public.
Shops and services:
- Pharmacies, grocery stores and other necessary shops remain open with limited opening hours; petrol stations remain open without restrictions. All other shops and service establishments are closed.
- Supermarkets are reserved for senior and at-risk citizens from 8am to 10am.
- All hotels, restaurants, bars, pubs, wine bars, and cafés are closed, except for takeaway refreshments through a window.
Transport in Prague:
- Prague public transport – metros, trams and buses – operates in a limited, holiday mode. Further information can be found at: https://www.dpp.cz/en.
- Paid parking is cancelled until further notice.
Authorities and institutions:
- Public offices are open for three hours, one or two days a week, and offer limited services.
- The office hours of the Prague City Hall are limited.
