Illustrators head to Prague
LUSTR, the international festival of contemporary illustration, takes place from the 19th to the 24th of September in Campus Hybernská. This year, the theme of the festival is freedom. The festival is an exhibition of current original illustration. Both the main and accompanying programmes point out key issues in today's society.
Meeting and sharing experiences
The artists selected by the jury created original illustrations on the theme of freedom especially for this event. The festival includes creative workshops, lectures, discussions and others activities designed for exhibiting illustrators and other artists, who can not only meet and share their experiences, but also network and make useful contacts. The field of illustration is incredibly creative and versatile. It is not just focused on books anymore; you can find illustration in almost all printed media and online, where it competes with photography.
Public events
This year, besides the activities for illustrators, a number of workshops, screenings, concerts and other events for the general public will be part of the festival. For example, experienced lecturers will teach visitors how to draw the human figure. A workshop by Vítek Mecner, a student at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague, will help high school students with an interest in studying illustration and visual arts prepare for their entrance examinations. Guille Comín, a Berlin-based filmmaker from Madrid, will give a workshop on designing characters in animations, and how to shape their personality, moods, and special characteristics to make them unique.
