Prague establishes emergency Assistance Centres
Assistance Centres ('Asistenční centrum pomoci') will be established in the Municipal Library of Prague in case of emergencies with a large number of casualties and other major crisis situations. It will primarily serve to provide information and assistance to people affected by an emergency, as well as their loved ones.
Assistance Centres will begin operating in a crisis where there is a high demand for information and the Integrated Rescue System and other concerned services are overwhelmed.
“In case of emergency, 43 branches of the Municipal Library will be used as assistance centres for citizens. Everyone in Prague will live near a centre where they can be provided with information and whatever aid is required,” Petr Hlubuček, Prague Deputy Mayor for Security, said.
The Municipal Library in Prague and its branches meet the size requirements for the Assistance Centres and can continuously operate. Above all, they already have the necessary technology.
They are also easy to find and have enough space for the local population. Assistance Centre staff will be trained bythe Prague Fire Rescue Service, in cooperation with other Integrated Rescue System units and the Prague Department of Security Department.
