Dear Praguers,

Ing. Martin Trnka, ředitel Magistrátu hlavního města Prahy.

Take full advantage of the winter months and enjoy sports in our city – go skiing, ice-skating or swimming in the new Šutka Aquacentre.

If your new year’s resolution has been to do more sports, here are several interesting tips for you.

The aquacentre in Čimická Street has been open for two months and has been met with great interest. It comes as no surprise, since the modern sports centre has a 50-metre-long indoor swimming pool. The only other swimming pool of such a size in Prague is in Podolí. This is appreciated mostly by active sportspeople. Families with children, on the other hand, may prefer the relaxation zone, where they can find jacuzzis, saunas, water bar or water slide. Šutka’s advantage is that it is easily accessible by public transport (only a few steps from Čimický Háj bus stop), as well as by car, there is enough parking space and it is free of charge. The centre is also ideal for handicapped sportspeople: Šutka Aquacentre is wheelchair accessible. For more information, visit www.sutka.eu.

Those who prefer outside winter activities can visit one of the ice-rinks in Prague. A great attraction is the reopened Štvanice, a legendary place of Czech sport, open daily with the rink area of 30 x 15 metres. Other well-known places are Na Františku sportsground or Gutovka in Strašnice. The entrance fee in most places is around 50 CZK, and you will pay about the same price to rent ice-skates.

And finally, there is Velká Chuchle Skipark. The cross-country ski track is open for everyone for free. It is regularly maintained and lit at night. It is located right beside the racecourse in Radotínská Street and is suitable for both experienced skiers and the youngest beginners.

The City of Prague is a sport-friendly city, there is something for everyone. For more detailed information, you can also visit a specialized website www.prahasportovni.cz (available in Czech only) with an event calendar and a map of all the sports centres in Prague.
